The Clearfield County Charitable Foundation Board of Directors recently approved a distribution of $3,900 in funding to area food banks.

Home Heating Savings Account Program Available for Centre, Clearfield Counties

Thanks to a generous contribution from CBT Bank, a division of Riverview Bank, Central Pennsylvania Community Action Inc., will again be offering the Home Heating Savings Account Program (HHSA) this year to qualified residents in Centre and Clearfield counties.

The HHSA is a dollar-for-dollar match of the saver’s account that will be used to pay heating expenses.

Central Pennsylvania Community Action, Inc. is launching a new program called “Budget Buddies” that will offer the opportunity to provide financial education to low-to-moderate income individuals and families who wants to have the tools to achieve their financial goals. The program, is set to begin in September in partnership with Santander Bank, thanks to a $10,000 grant Santander Bank awarded to CPCA.

Friday: 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. & 12:30 p.m.-3:00 p.m.

CPCA Accepting Applications for Housing Assistance Program

CLEARFIELD – Central Pennsylvania Community Action is pleased to announce that it is accepting applications for rental, utility and mortgage assistance through the 2018-19 Housing Assistance Program [HAP].

This program, funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services, through Clearfield County, serves to assist qualified applicants who are having difficulty making monthly rent payments, utility payments or mortgage payments.

On Aug. 20, 1964 President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Economic Opportunity Act, which created a variety of programs, including Community Action agencies, as part of his War on Poverty.

“He knew then as we know now that the war against poverty must be won in the field, in every private home [and] in every public office, from the courthouse to the White House,” said Susan Hawthorne, executive director of Central Pennsylvania Community Action.
